This site's content helps classic car owners match dealer complimentary 8-track tapes to their 1966 - 1972 model year automobiles. The tapes were provided free with the purchase of a new car with the optional factory in-dash 8-track unit or with dealer installed hang-on accessory kits. The tapes may have been initially placed in the console or glove box of the new car at the factory.
8-track stereo units were an exciting option in late 1965. The complimentary tapes allowed customers to enjoy mobile music while driving their new cars home from the dealerships. Today, the tapes are a perfect compliment to restored cars with 8-track units. They are also great for car show display and playing.
Complimentary tapes are generally dated by the recording companies one year less than the applicable model year. This allowed them to be available for the start of the model year. Exceptions exist as some tapes are for two model years and others are not dated on the labels or cardboard sleeves.
Ford, Chevrolet, GM, Cadillac, Oldsmobile, Buick, Pontiac, Delco, Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, Mopar, AMC and IH tape listings by model year are on the Home page. Listing photos are on the Gallery page. The photos are grouped by automobile company or division and then by model year ascending.
Automotive complimentary 8-track tapes and supplies, as well as automotive shop manuals, literature and brochures are available for sale on the Shop page which links to our Etsy Shop.
Some 8-track tape repair and storage tips, and a few additional photos from the complimentary 8-track archive vault can be found on the Vault page.
The site is rounded out with the RCA Victor 8 Tracks page that includes a listing of the first 175 8-track tapes released by RCA Victor and their Camden label. They are nice compliments to automotive demonstration tapes.
Best of luck in finding the matching complimentary tape for your classic car.
